Some schools offer a newcomer class to help kids coming from abroad to integrate into the Dutch system during their first year in the Netherlands.
These classes are for children aged 6 and above (in some towns/cities from age 4), and allow them to integrate fully into the Dutch system.
Children have intensive Dutch language classes, but also learn about the culture, history and geography of the Netherlands, as well as covering the normal school subjects, such as math, gym, music and art. This means children keep up with their curriculum, rapidly learning how to apply the local language and culture in practice.
If the school you’ve chosen doesn’t provide this class, you can also see if there are classes available locally.
Print out this checklist and take it with you when visiting places that provide newcomer classes to make sure you get all the important information you’ll need.
